Kubernetes Skill Tree comments (not a comprehensive Review)

My comments on the Kubernetes Skill Tree, so far:

I am not a Kubernetes user, and can't even tell if I should be(?)

This Tree is the most technical in this whole repository by far!

So, I would start with https://kubernetes.io/docs/reference/glossary/ but I don't see it anywhere in the Skill Tree.
Could we add that, somehow.
I don't know enough to suggest what to remove, or combine.

Is the START HERE tile the best it could be?
I am thinking this first tile (in every Tree) is always the "Hello World" for the topic. It is practically a "freebie" that gets everybody off to a great start without having to install any sw or buy any hw at all.

Add a tile "Tell a friend about Kubernetes".

In tile/box R1,C3 ("Check pod logs")
I think pod should be capitalized, for consistency.

Finally, in README.md ,
move Kubernetes row (and Scratch row)
from the table "Other Submissions & Suggestions"
into the table "Tech Skills (17/20)"
(and update to 19/22, if that is not done automagically).

Great thoughts @warrenjokinen, Kubernetes is definitely the most technical subject so far, and I'll see if I can find an expert who might have time to weigh in on these ideas. I've now added in a Kubernetes SVG to make it easier to peer review and edit this tree with the Skill Tree Generator..

I see what you mean, the capitalization is all over the place with this one and I've tried to fix most of this in the SVG.

I've also now re-arranged the Readme with your ideas too - Some more organization needed there and I've added all the suggestions to broad categories now that represent the project a bit better. Thanks for suggesting the Inkscape tree too, sounds like a great idea!

I don't have any further comments at the moment... until I get chance to dl and actually try the things. (We may be using it at our Makerspace, but in a few months!)

I am interested to know how you generated the yaml. I mean what tools do you use to read/write this format? (The Generator does not seem to be able to read or write it.)

Great feedback @warrenjokinen. I agree this sets too high an entry point for a lot of users. Personally I think we need a container focused Skill Tree as an initial starting point. You need to understand some key container concepts before you can really get value out of k8s.

@warrenjokinen I'm working on a tool right now in an attempt to solve #17 that can convert between the SVG and YAML versions (and hopefully soon the Excel translations). My immediate goal is to deploy it to a website that lets you upload the different files and does the conversion client-side to be user-friendly.

Longer term I'd like to turn it into a GitHub action that automatically "compiles" the files to PDF/PNG/SVG. I just created this repo https://github.com/josephlewis42/skilltreetool you can watch. My hope is to have a publishable MVP this weekend.

I am trying the application penpot… an existing free and open-source tool to design and collaborate on things like user interfaces, maps, (or Trees,) and any document.

I just learned about it yesterday morning, and by mid afternoon, I had:

Created a Project that included a current photo from my phone
Included our makerspace bug (which I made a clickable link to our wiki)
Made multi-colored text within a single block (and angled, even!)
Created two “hotspots” (that link to our LightBurn page and Laser Equipment anchor)
Slacked it to 3 other makers who reviewed it in their browser (without any accounts)

This morning, based on feedback, I am going to add two more hotspots to link to our Wood Shop and Computer info that we already have published. (I made the hotspots “Components”, so I will just reuse them and override just the colors.) I am going to try attaching Comments, too.

I didn’t do any programming, no JSON or YAML, just drag and drop, and drawing with the provided tools, and then even get CSS, HTML, and SVG code from the application(!)

Penpot supports Plugins, too. (There is a “Timekeeper” Plugin that I just noticed so I am going to look at that next.)

So, for the Trees here, instead of just limited amounts of text … Tiles could be expanded in many ways… such as making a better list of contributors and Peer Reviewers (instead of just the little banner.)

Projects can be quickly and easily created by teachers and learners, alike, from what I see so far…

Great find @warrenjokinen , I love how this is open source. Could you share links to the things you made? I'd love to see how it turned out. I've also been using Miro as an easy way to collaborate on skill tree builds with a two or more people at the same time. I agree that there needs to be a better way to credit reviewers and authors too, maybe some kind of Readme file in each skill tree folder. Thanks for passing this one on!

I can share my first effort with penpot. However not sure how to proceed, since I am totally new to this (both PP and GH). I think the best chance of success would be to post/send the native (5MB) .penpot file somehow(?)

Then if you are willing and have the time to set up account you could see all the interactions, and take this file apart before trying to create an original file or experimenting with the collaboration.

This was an attempt to create what a Mixed Reality scene might look like. (I attached a small screenshot, hope that is OK.)

Let me know...

Also, I have learned that live text, and even live unclosed Bezier curves can be links to websites, for example!!
