List Companies Using seL4 in their products. #561

Description

@indolering

There is a strong pop-culture sentiment that seL4 doesn't see any real-world usage. The seL4 page lists 7 relatively obscure products, two of which are DARPA tech demos. What if the list of specific products is followed by a list of logos of companies where seL4 is depended upon internally? Or maybe just an animated banner that has the logos scrolling sideways across?

I know Google uses it in CantripOS, for example. There is a picture of a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft. Apple is on the board and I'm told there is uptake in the defense industry but I'm assuming there are NDAs there. I would think there would be mutual interest in cross-marketing at the brand level (Apple obviously doesn't care that people know it is on the foundation).

    It would be good to list more. What's on there is pretty much the limit of what we know for sure and can talk about, but we do by far not know about all deployments and uses of seL4. If there is a way to get people to tell us and be added to the list, that would be useful.

    The examples above do not work, though. We specifically cannot add logos of Apple, Google, etc, or comment on how much they use what. (AFAIK Apple does not currently use seL4 itself, but I don't work for them and I don't know for sure. If I did work for them I wouldn't be allowed to say). AFAIK, CantripOS is no longer active.

    The board's members and their partners want seL4 to succeed! I'm advocating for literally copying this scrolling banner (sans associates) to another page on the website. If you are concerned about it, can we get this raised at the board level? Could board members lean on their marketing teams to reach out to downstream users?

    If there are products being shipped to any armed forces or TLA, they would certainly be a candidate here.

    Open Se Cura is definitely alive and kicking.

    Just because they are members does not mean they have products shipping or using seL4, but we can just say again that these are the members. That would not be a problem.

    Well, I think we should keep this focused on industry usage. Where did the SpaceX dragon capsule come from? Is it supposed to be a generic satellite image?

    Then just listing the logos does not make sense.
