Pull request overview
This PR fixes a request/stream ID leak in ResponseFuture._query() when the send path fails after a request ID has already been allocated, ensuring the ID is reclaimed and the connection state is cleaned up. This aligns with issue #871 by making request-id cleanup explicit for the “allocated-but-not-successfully-sent” failure path and keeping it covered by a unit test.
Changes:
- Track
request_idin_query()and ensure it is released back toconnection.request_idson send/encode failures after allocation. - Remove any partially-registered request callback state (
connection._requests) associated with the failed send before returning the connection to the pool. - Add a unit test to assert request-id reclamation and request map cleanup when a send fails after registration.

📝 Walkthrough
Priority: ⬇️ Low Change: Bug fix · Severity of issue fixed: Low Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to This change releases request IDs and replaces connections after send failures. A narrow race between a request timeout and a failed send may still need confirmation that it is fixed, though the PR's own tests appear to address it. The remaining risk is small and bounded. - Around line 7473-7474: Update the send-failure cleanup near the request ID
registration in `_query()` to coordinate with `_on_timeout()` before returning
the connection. If the timeout has already claimed the ID by adding it to
`connection.orphaned_request_ids`, do not release it for reuse; otherwise
preserve the existing cleanup behavior.

Remove any callback left under the borrowed request ID before returning the connection to its pool. Cover busy connections, failed encoding, and timeout behavior when another request borrows the released ID. Refs: scylladb#871

A failed push may leave request bytes queued for delivery. Retire that connection before its stream ID can be reused, including synchronous response waits. Replace it without treating a local queue failure as evidence that the host is down. Restore the prior connection and its owning pool together after a failed send. Keep the established defunct override API and let a later heartbeat failure report the host down. Cover query, control connection, heartbeat, and pool behavior. Fixes: scylladb#871

Fixes #871. Reclaims the request id when the send path fails after registration, and keeps the cleanup covered by unit tests.
