Summary

Antrim and Newtownabbey uses its own property Id in the schedule URL (bins-schedule/?Id=20876), not a UPRN, and the scraper just parsed whatever URL it was handed. The wiki override template is ?Id=XXXX with four X's, so tools that substitute an eight-X placeholder never replace it, and the default config always returns the schedule for Id=643. I hit this in my own app: every Antrim user was getting the same Wednesday collections.

The council's bin checker (/binchecker/) has a postcode search that returns the addresses with their Ids in ddlAddress. The scraper now:

  • searches by postcode when postcode + house number are given, matches the house number as a whole token, and fetches the schedule for that Id
  • raises ValueError if the house number isn't in the postcode, rather than falling back to the first address
  • still parses the given URL when no postcode/house number is passed, so existing configs keep working

input.json gains postcode / house_number for a real test address and a wiki note explaining both options.

Testing

  • Postcode + house number: BT41 2QE + 73 resolves to Id 20876 (73 Steeple Road), 4 collections returned
  • URL only (backward compat): default ?Id=643 URL, 8 collections returned
  • BT41 2QE + 45 (no such house) raises ValueError
  • Run end to end through my own API: 73 Steeple Road now gets Tuesday brown bins / Friday boxes, matching the council page, instead of the Id=643 schedule

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • The Antrim and Newtownabbey bin checker can now find a property’s collection schedule using a postcode and house number or name.
    • You can also continue to provide a bin-schedule URL with the property ID.
  • Documentation
    • Updated the example configuration with postcode and house-number values, and clarified the available lookup options.

The scraper only parsed whatever bins-schedule URL it was given, so
anyone using the default config got the schedule for Id=643. It now
searches the council bin checker by postcode, matches the house number
and fetches the schedule for that property's Id. Passing a URL with an
Id still works when no postcode/house number is given.

Walkthrough

The Antrim and Newtownabbey scraper now resolves a property ID from a postcode and house number, then fetches that property’s bin schedule. If either value is missing, it continues to parse the supplied page.

The new postcode and house-number lookup works for the reported example. A caller who supplies only one of the two values silently gets the default schedule URL's collections, which belong to another property. The lookup can also fail when the unused schedule URL is unreachable. Both are small fixes in one scraper and should be addressed before or soon after merge.

⚠️ Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.

Reject ambiguous address matches and matches on flat numbers.

When paon is 7, the whole-token pattern accepts an option labeled Flat 7, 73 Steeple Road. If no option starts with 7, match_address returns that flat’s property ID instead of raising ValueError. The first two patterns can also return the first of several addresses with the same primary number. Match the primary property identifier and reject ambiguous results before fetching a schedule.

Explain how to select URL-only mode.

This example includes both lookup values, so changing only url still fetches the schedule selected by the postcode and house number. Tell users to remove both postcode and house_number when they want to use their own ?Id= URL.

Reject a postcode or house number supplied without the other value.

When postcode is set but paon and house_number are both empty, the if user_postcode and user_paon: check fails. The code then parses page.content, the schedule fetched from the supplied URL. If that URL is the default ?Id=643 schedule, the output is another property's collections, and no error is raised. The PR text defines URL-only parsing for the case without postcode and house number. It does not define this partial case. Raise an error when only one value is supplied. Keep URL mode when neither value is supplied.

Skip the supplied URL during postcode lookup.

When postcode and paon or house_number are set, set skip_get_url=True before calling the base implementation. The base class otherwise fetches address_url first, and a failed request raises before parse_data can perform the postcode lookup.
