Move photos to an existing person fails with “Mark person in preview” setting that does not exist #3839

Description

Describe the bug

When using Nextcloud Photos to manually correct an incorrectly recognized person, moving a photo to an existing person fails with the following message:

“You must enable ‘Mark person in preview’ to use this feature”

However, I cannot find any “Mark person in preview” setting in Recognize 11.0.1.

The affected functionality is the ability to manually assign an incorrectly recognized photo to an existing person.

To Reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open Nextcloud Photos.
  2. Go to the People section.
  3. Open an existing person.
  4. Select a photo that has been incorrectly assigned to this person.
  5. Choose “Move to a different person” / “Move photos to a different person”.
  6. Select another existing person as the destination.
  7. The operation fails with:

“You must enable ‘Mark person in preview’ to use this feature”

Expected behavior

The selected photo should be assigned to the selected existing person.

The original photo file should remain unchanged.

Additional context

Nextcloud installation:

  • Nextcloud: 33.0.8.2
  • Photos: 6.0.0
  • Recognize: 11.0.1
  • Deployment: Nextcloud AIO / Docker
  • Database: PostgreSQL
  • OS: Linux VM

Recognize has correctly identified and clustered many people, but some photos are incorrectly assigned to a person. I need to manually correct these assignments by moving the affected photos to an existing person.

The problem is not related to moving or copying the original image files. The expected operation is only to change the face/person association within Nextcloud Photos/Recognize.

I cannot find a “Mark person in preview” option anywhere in the current Recognize 11.0.1 configuration.

I also searched the installed Recognize 11.0.1 frontend/source files for:

  • Mark person
  • person in preview
  • markPersonInPreview

and found no matching occurrence.

There is an older Recognize issue reporting the same error message:

nextcloud/recognize#1012

However, that issue concerns an older version of Recognize, so I am not assuming it is the same underlying problem.

There is also a more recent Photos issue concerning moving/merging photos between people with Nextcloud 33 / Photos 6 / Recognize 11.0.1:

#3455

Could you please clarify where and how I can enable “Mark person in preview” in Recognize 11.0.1 / Nextcloud 33?

If the setting has been removed or renamed, could you please provide the correct way to manually move an incorrectly recognized photo to an existing person?
