I ran into issue #719 too, which seems to be due to manylinux2014 shipping with an older patchelf, which is incompatible with glib >= 2.36 where everything together made gap_fit segfault, though silently. Updating to patchelf >=0.17 seems to have fixed it for me locally.
I have also added a test call for gap_fit and quip, which might catch similar issues in the future.
