On a big repo, tig takes a long time to scan the history. In that time it keeps updating the status bar at the bottom. That makes it impossible to select and copy text anywhere in the window, at least with the GNOME terminal emulator. Usually I use Ctrl-S in such a situation to freeze the output, which lets me select and copy text. However, Ctrl-S for some reason does not work in tig, which is quite frustrating.
Whatever tig is doing that prevents Ctrl-S from suspending output as usual, would be great if tig could stop doing that.. :) Or maybe a fancy terminal application like tig needs to do something special to support Ctrl-S in the first place?

In large repositories you can use the
zkey to stop loading the view when you have enough.RalfJung commentedon Aug 19, 2026
Ah, that is helpful, thanks. :)
There is no way to resume loading if I stopped too early, is there?

F5orRshould do.RalfJung commentedon Aug 19, 2026
Ah yeah F5 works. I didn't even know terminal applications can react to F keys...
(R does something else, it opens a different screen for me.)
