Last time I saw this it didn't just break githubs ability to show commits it broke the build-pr script. So this probably needs to be broken into 2 PR's.

I think I did something like this. Undo a heap of commits to get me =<200:
git reset --soft HEAD~82

Go to the root of the packages repo clone:
goroot

Remove files from staging so they won't all be part of the next commit we make.
git restore --staged .

Create a sub branch off the work branch and run a script to re-create the 82 commits I just undid and create a new PR for that.
