src/arch/common/*.sh file directly references compiler, always getting system version-

I'm attempting to build with a custom version of Clang, and this results in build errors, as it is picking up the 'wrong' clang from my OS, rather than the one from the cmake scripts.

I tried it with Clang, but see at least GCC has the same problem.

Does it help if you export PATH=/path/to/custom/clang/bin:...?

Yes, that does, and is what I did to unblock me. Just pointing out an inconsistency of how the build scripts are going as a result: part of your build checks CC/CXX, and these figure out the 'kind' on that, and pick up the system version.
