Extensible shell for Arch Linux / Hyprland.
QML draws. Quickshell drives. Plugins declare. Alexandria renders.
Alexandria is a planned shell for Hyprland: bar, launcher, drawers, notifications, control center, OSD, and a built-in AI assistant — designed to be extended by external plugins rather than by forking the shell.
The goal: every visible surface — bar items, launcher actions, drawer panels, control center pages — should be extendable by plugins. None of this works yet; this is a public design draft.
Status: early planning — no working build yet. Name reservation and public design draft.
Personal R&D / lab project for exploring Hyprland shell architecture, plugin design, and local LLM integration. Not aiming to replace existing shells.
- bar with plugin-contributed items
- launcher / command palette
- side drawers with rich panels
- notifications and toasts
- OSD (volume, brightness, media)
- control center with quick settings
- AI assistant as a first-party plugin (chat, clipboard read, OCR, TTS) — local LLM via llama-swap
- Hyprland IPC integration
- Designed around plugins — extend the shell with a TOML manifest and a small Go process. The v1 slot system is intentionally limited (fixed surfaces, plugins ship logic not QML); more open contribution shapes will arrive in later milestones.
- AI as a first-class citizen — the first official plugin runs a local LLM via llama-swap. Ollama and cloud providers are post-MVP, opt-in.
- Coherent UI — plugins declare what they want; the shell decides how it looks. No visual fragmentation across extensions.
- Hyprland (compositor)
- Quickshell + QML + JS (UI and shell logic, single process)
- Go (plugin SDK only)
- TOML manifests, JSON-RPC IPC for plugins
Project is in a pre-code design phase. Issues with feature ideas, naming feedback, or interest in collaborating are welcome.
