Software developer, systems engineer and business owner based in Germany
Embedded Linux · C++ · C# · Infrastructure · Open Source
I'm Simon, a husband, dad and software developer based in Germany.
I grew up in England before moving to Germany and speak both English and German fluently. Professionally, my background is primarily in embedded Linux and systems development, with experience across industrial, agricultural and automotive applications.
I have been developing software professionally and as a hobby for well over a decade. My work ranges from low-level embedded systems and hardware communication to backend services, infrastructure and cross-platform applications.
I currently run two companies in Germany.
Procyon Systems provides IT services and infrastructure solutions for small businesses.
Its services include:
- IT support and system administration
- Linux and Windows infrastructure
- Web application and email hosting
- Network security and managed firewalls
- Backup and disaster-recovery solutions
- Server and workstation systems
- IT consulting and long-term technical support
Procyon Systems primarily works with small and medium-sized businesses that need reliable IT without unnecessarily complicated or oversized solutions.
CaBu Soft develops and sells software projects and software products.
Its work includes:
- Custom software development
- Commercial software products
- Cross-platform applications
- Backend services and APIs
- Business process software
- Hosted software-as-a-service solutions
- On-premises software deployments
- Maintenance, updates and long-term product development
CaBu Soft is focused entirely on software, while Procyon Systems handles IT services, hosting, infrastructure and security.
My clients and projects include companies from agriculture, automotive, engineering and other small-business sectors.
You have probably arrived here through one of my open-source projects.
Documentation for many of my projects is available at:
The documentation site may not be the prettiest thing I have ever built, but it is functional, permanent and always in dark mode.
My repositories include public libraries, tools, experiments and various semi-complete projects.
Some were created to solve a specific problem. Some later became production software. Others reached a state that was useful enough that I simply stopped changing them.
Have a look through my repositories and see whether anything is useful to you.
My favourite languages, in no particular order, are:
- C++
- C#
- Lua
- Bash
My regular work includes:
- Embedded Linux
- SocketCAN and ISO-TP
- ARM, PowerPC and x86-64 systems
- C++ applications and libraries
- .NET applications and services
- Docker and containerised deployments
- Linux and Windows Server administration
- Networking, VPNs and system security
- CI/CD and automated testing
- APIs and multi-tenant business applications
Every developer has technologies they would rather not deal with. Mine are:
- Python
- Visual Basic
- JavaScript
- Perl
I will use them when a project genuinely requires it, but I am unlikely to choose them voluntarily.
- Rust
- Objective-C
These sit somewhere between curiosity and suspicion. I occasionally find reasons to experiment with them, but neither has become part of my regular stack yet.
