💫 About Me

Hi, I’m Hsiang-Yu, and you can also call me Patrick.

I’m currently a Master of IT student at the University of Melbourne. Before coming here, I earned my M.S. in Geoscience from National Taiwan University in 2023, and worked as a research assistant at the Earth Structure Laboratory, Institute of Earth Sciences, Academia Sinica, from 2023 to 2026.

My core toolkit spans Python, software design, ML integration, and data analysis and visualization. What I enjoy most about building software is the layer of invisible decisions: what to expose, what to abstract, and who you’re really designing for. It’s the kind of craft I see in software like Notion, Obsidian, and Dia, and it’s what I want to bring to the teams I work with.

I’m actively looking for internships (especially Summer 2027) in backend, data, or ML engineering. I'd love to learn from teams that care deeply about their craft, and always happy to connect with others working in or curious about this field!

All-in-One Earthquake Catalog Generation: AutoQuake

We integrated phase picking, phase association, earthquake relocation, magnitude estimation, polarity determination, and focal mechanism solution within a Python toolkit, allowing users to customize their own pipeline. The work was recently published in JGR: Solid Earth (here). If you're interested in how we applied it to the 2024 Hualien Earthquake, feel free to check it out!
