Hi all 👋

Following a major change to Scalar’s pricing plans—which would have increased our bill by roughly 600%—we decided it was time to build a proper self-hosted solution for publishing our documentation and OpenAPI specifications.

Having used Docus for several previous projects, it seemed like a strong foundation for building a documentation platform tailored to our organisation’s needs.

Today, I’m pleased to share the result: Docus Plus 💚

What’s in the “Plus”?

Docus Plus is a Nuxt layer that extends the original Docus layer. It provides a deliberately opinionated implementation of Docus, with additional features and integrations that we needed for our own documentation projects.

Here is a compact overview of what Docus Plus adds:

• 🧭 Scalar API reference: Generate an interactive API explorer from local or remote OpenAPI specifications, including support for versioned specifications.
• 🔎 Enhanced search: OpenAPI operations, tags, and models are automatically indexed and exposed as dedicated sections in the command palette.
• 🤖 Extended MCP server: Additional MCP tools make OpenAPI specifications and their generated reference content available to AI agents.
• ✨ Mistral AI integration: Use Mistral models in the AI assistant without relying on the Vercel AI Gateway.
• 🌐 Improved discoverability: Make documentation easier for AI agents to discover through Markdown content negotiation and MCP server cards.
• 📝 Changelog publishing: Create a polished changelog timeline using a dedicated changelogs collection, inspired by the Nuxt UI releases page
• 🗄️ Cache utilities: Add custom cache drivers with path metadata, along with CRUD endpoints for managing cache bases and entries.
• 🔌 Integrations: Near-zero-configuration integrations with Plausible, Mailchimp, and Cloudflare Turnstile.

What is not supported yet?

Some features included in Docus are not currently supported by Docus Plus:

• Internationalisation
• LLM providers other than Mistral

You can scaffold a new Docus Plus project with:
