Translation

[neigeinformatique]

Hi,

I'd like to participate to the project and translate the application in French.
How can i do ?

Hi @neigeinformatique ,

Thank you for your interest in YAFFA, and for your willingness to contribute to it.
Adding and enabling French language is a relatively straightforward change in the codebase, I'd be happy to prepare these changes. With its current functionality, YAFFA uses around 900 different translatable labels. The strings are uploaded to a shared Google Sheets file, and translation can be maintained here, which will be loaded to the application code later. Translation itself can be added manually, or by using GOOGLETRANSLATE function, and reviewing and fixing the results manually. The translation does not have to be created for all labels at once, as the lack of context sometimes make it difficult to capture the exact meaning, so the overall process can be iterative.

Is this something, which you would be willing to start working on? Let me know what you think.

Hi,

Thank you. I think that's a good start.
I'll start working on it. And if I need help, I'll come back to this discussion.

Sounds great! Please reach out if you have any questions. Make sure to send me a sharing request from Sheets so that I can grant you permission to edit the relevant parts of the shared doc.

A first version of French translation (AI-based) has been added recently. Feel free to reach out, if you are interested in improving it. (Based on my experiences with other mass-translated locales, it should be a good start, requiring fine-tuning, where lack of context resulted in poor choice of synonyms or wording.
