This seems like a great tutorial but I get lost when you say to "add the following to your Zsh config". What does that mean and how do I do that?

Hi @monacojay. 👋 Zsh looks for a configuration file in your home directory (~/.zshrc) when the shell session is started. If you don't have this file yet, you can create it with touch ~/.zshrc.

Awesome, I got it! I now have my Terminal prompt customized the way I'd always dreamed. Looking forward to further customizing with Oh My Zsh as I continue through this coding bootcamp I'm in right now. Thank you so much!

Great article! In my case, I had to add setopt prompt_subst, though. Otherwise $vcs_info_msg_0_ wouldn't get substituted. I ended up with the following in my ~/.zshrc:

autoload -Uz vcs_info
zstyle ':vcs_info:git:*' formats ' (%b)'
precmd () { vcs_info }
setopt prompt_subst
PS1='%F{yellow}%1~%f%F{cyan}$vcs_info_msg_0_%f $ '
