When are segments rebuilt automatically?

Hello!

I was wondering when segments are automatically rebuilt. When I send a campaign to a segment, does it rebuild the segment automatically before the campaign is sent? Do I have to setup an Automation?

How does this generally work? I don't think it's documented in the official documentation, right?
