Question - UWSM + Hyprland + Hyprpanel - missing system tray icons #104

TLDR; Starting Hyprland with UWSM (from SDDM) and loading Hyprpanel through systemd as a service works fine but the applications loaded from xdg autostart folder (.desktop items) are failing to place their icons in system tray. Other applets spawn fine, like nm-applet, which are loaded from /etc/xdg/autostart.

I have been using UWSM for over a month now with Hyprland and SDDM. I have opted to use Hyprpanel as my bar of choise. I also need to autostart some programs on the boot of my machine. The user autostart applications include teams-for-linux, slack, discord and google chat. These autostart applications are .desktop entries located in my $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/autostart.
Hyprland works fine with and without using uwsm. The hyprpanel loads using systemd, /etc/systemd/user/hyprpanel.service

The hyprpanel needs around 10 seconds to be showed but that's fine by me. The problem is that just before hyprpanel is popped up, the applications starts to boot up. When hyprpanel is done loading then the system tray has only the following icons missing the mentioned autostart applications icons.
For days I am trying to figure out what was wrong and I always thought that the uwsm scope is the problem but yesterday i tried to restart the service of discord as an example systemctl --user restart app-discord\\x2dstable@autostart.service and the discord icon appeared in the hyprpanel system tray. Now, I could add a delay on all my exec from .desktop items or restart all my applications with a delay from hyprland config but I am not that person, I would like to understand how this works and actually fix it.

I am adding here two files, first one is going to be a systemctl --user status output with system tray missing the icons (cold boot) discord-autostarted.txt
and another file where I restarted the discord application using the systemctl cli discord-started-after-killing.txt.

Any help is appreciated.

Hyprpanel relies on Astal Tray service: https://github.com/Aylur/astal/tree/main/lib/tray
That is the source of the tray items. Since Astal can start without hyprpanel, I wonder if you can daemonize the astal tray via

astal-tray -d

on startup and see if that fixes your issue?

Yeap, actually starting the astral tray as daemon first and then the rest of the exec-once did show the unsupported tray icons.
